That’s it. That’s the update.
Just kidding!
I mean, there actually isn’t a whole lot to update you on. I’ve managed not to shop for the month of January, and it was a lot easier than I had anticipated. I managed to avoid all of the post-holiday sales, which probably helped, but I think the most effective strategy was to take a look at all of the clothes and stuff I already owned to give me a little perspective.I did acquire a Nike flight suit from The Kind Exchange, but I did so by trading in some pieces from my own closet, so I let got of about six pieces, and didn’t spend $$$! I hadn’t thought of trading as a means of getting new stuff, but Kane pointed out that technically that’s not shopping, because I’m trading using my own stuff as currency. Thanks, boo! Truthfully, it’s probably not something I’m going to do regularly—I just thought that flight suit was too cool to pass up.
For the month of February, I’m allowing myself to buy some stuff for my birthday, given that I adhere to a pretty strict budget. I haven’t found anything that I really want/need yet, so if this next month goes by without a purchase, then that’s that.
The toughest part of this has definitely been not buying little accessories and (inexpensive) lipstick, but I’ve got a post that talks a bit about that for later.
If you’re also taking part in the #noshopping2018 challenge, how did your first month go? Hang in there!
