My blog is a year old today!
You guys!! Never Not In Black is a whole year old. It’s kind of wild to think of where I was and what I was doing a year ago, to be honest.
If I’m going to keep it totally real, this time last year, I wasn’t in a great place. I was really dissatisfied with aspects of my life, particularly my career trajectory, and I was at a dead-end job that I really hated. It may have payed the bills, but it seemed like every day was a battle to get out of bed and go to work. To say that I was unhappy is an understatement.
It was actually because I was so miserable that I decided to start this blog. I was having beers with my boyfriend Kane, and we were just shooting the shit about what I could do to get me out of the rut that I was in. I had a different blog prior to this one, but I started it in University as part of a class project, and it just wasn’t really me anymore, so I thought, why not start from scratch? I’d also been feeling rusty in the writing department, and I missed taking photos and creating content — that’s really what cemented my decision for me.
Looking back on everything I’ve posted in the last year, I know that I there’s still a lot of room for improvement, but I also feel like every day and I’m getting more comfortable and gaining more momentum. How I’m feeling about my career has VASTLY improved as well. Work is not without its ups and downs, for sure, but I’m figuring things out as I go, and I’m a lot more okay with that idea than I was a year ago. Time certainly gave me some perspective, and I’m approaching life with a little more chill that I was before. Things aren’t perfect (they rarely are) but I’m feeling good about where life is taking me.
I don’t like to get too into this kind of stuff, so I’m gonna keep it short, but I also want to say thanks to all of you. There are so many AMAZING people in my life, both online and IRL, who are supportive and encouraging, and I don’t know what I would do without you all. Thank you!
I’m excited for what the next year has in store. Woo!
